As I speak with many smaller businesses, I’m finding they think background screening is a nice to have versus a need to have. This is a huge mistake because of the various liabilities. The other thing I often hear is owners just searching a Facebook account or Googling a potential employee.  This, too, can get you into hot water. Before you do this, research your state laws regarding privacy rights.  The easiest, safest and least expensive way to research a potential employee is by using an FCRA compliant company, not an online search engine that promises to find you whatever you need to know about someone. Due to various laws and based on the type of crime, you could be looking at information you are not supposed to see and use against someone.
